Threads of unicycle pedals

Recently, me pedals were in need of repair, and I had
them replaced at the local bike shop. To my surprise, the
repair guy shows me that both of my pedals had left-handed
threads. Is this the norm, or is my uni just weird?
(My uni is an Oxford, I believe--I bought it
used a few weeks ago.)
