There is a guy England (Leo, from the Cheltenham and Gloucester unicycle
hockey team) who used to have SPDs on his uni but he took them off after
a couple of nasty falls. His conclusion was that the way that you come
off a uni does not release the SPDs. He was an experienced SPD user on
bikes. He still uses toe-clips on one of his unis - sometimes even while
playing hockey, but they are cut-down rigid toe-clips and easier to
release.

I hope this information helps and prevents a few accidents... ;^)
